Mark Ronson gathered friends, fellow DJs, and longtime collaborators at Chez Nous, the newly opened French brasserie inside the historic Marlton Hotel on Tuesday night to toast the release of his new book, Night People: How To Be A DJ in ‘90s New York City—a memoir with a hint of mixtape.
The Occasion: Music producer Mark Ronson toasted the launch of his new book, Night People: How to be a DJ in ‘90s New York City, with a gathering hosted by David Kuhn, former magazine editor and current literary agent and Chez Nous partner. The evening was an homage both to Ronson’s release and the era that informed it. The evening was soundtracked by the DJ sets included in the book, played faithfully in the same sequence.
The Locale: After opeing earlier this summer inside the historic Marlton Hotel in Greenwich Village, Chez Nous is quickly earning a reputation as one of New York’s cultural salons. Restaurateur-hotelier Sean MacPherson, alongside his partners Ira Drukier, Richard Born, and David Kuhn, has created a brasserie that feels plucked from another time. The space, designed by production designer Kevin Thompson, features a dining room studded with plush banquettes, a formidable Cecily Brown work, and a subtly cinematic mood that sets the stage for a memorable evening.
The Crowd: Guests from New York’s ’90s nightlife scene and contemporary cognoscenti, including Elle Fanning, Derek Blasberg, Amy Sedaris, and Naomi Fry, chatted and laughed as they flipped through Ronson’s book.
Food and Drink: Guests at Chez Nous toasted “Mark-aritas,” while Executive Chef Flossie Gilles’ French-inspired menu, featuring dishes like leeks pavé, salade Niçoise, and salmon en papillote, set the tone for the evening.
The Entertainment: Aside from early copies of Night People in the hands of guests, Ronson’s sets, also featured in the book, played throughout Chez Nous.
