Today, Art Basel announced that MoMA PS1 Chief Curator and Director of Curatorial Affairs Ruba Katrib has been appointed curator for the Unlimited sector at next June’s Swiss edition of the fair. She follows Kunst Halle Sankt Gallen Director Giovanni Carmine, who had served in the role since 2021. Known for incisive, forward-looking exhibitions that propel emerging and cult artists like Jumana Manna and Rirkrit Tiravanija into the limelight, Katrib has helped shape PS1’s curatorial lens for the past eight years, as well as that of SculptureCenter and the 2018 edition of SITE Santa Fe’s biennial before it.
“Unlimited is a unique and vital platform that allows artists to realize works of a scale and ambition rarely possible in other contexts,” says the curator. “It is an honor to shape this celebrated sector and to collaborate with artists and galleries on projects that will resonate with audiences in Basel and beyond.”

With Unlimited—a platform for large-scale works that transcend the traditional booth format—Katrib will be bringing together installation, sculpture, and a new crop of ambitious artists. For the fair’s Chief Artistic Officer, Vincenzo de Bellis, her appointment reflects an outlook shift in the art world that fairgoers should note: “By joining our curatorial team, Ruba brings with her a depth of insight, intellectual rigor, and sensitivity to the urgencies of contemporary culture. Her vision will infuse Unlimited with fresh perspectives and open new possibilities for how audiences encounter large-scale artistic practice.”
Art Basel will take place at Messe Basel on June 18-21, 2026, with Preview Days on June 16 and 17.
