Rosé was poured and a hush fell over the crowd. The evening’s speakers, artists Tschabalala Self and RaFia who came together through Free Range (the Hudson Valley-based collective supporting artists of color with events and performances), took the stage and the salon began. The two discussed identity, genre-bending and the difficulties of carving out space as young artists. As glasses emptied, the conversation evolved into a dance party set to the tunes of DJ Fulathela. As part of Cultured and NeueHouse’s ongoing talk series, the evening brought together the diverse voices of the city under one roof.
