David "Mr. StarCity” White at Frevo with Sharing the rain, your strength becomes mine. All photography by Krista Schulter.

Tucked behind an unmarked gallery in Greenwich Village, Michelin-starred restaurant Frevo once again merged visual art and gastronomy with "When We Bloom," a solo exhibition by David “Mr. StarCity” White, curated by Destinee Ross-Sutton. To celebrate the opening, CULTURED helped Frevo raise a toast to the inventive showing, bringing together artists and tastemakers including musician Alexa Dark, artist Brianna Lance, model Alioune Badara Falls, and designer Eny Lee Parker, who enjoyed a specially curated music set by Out of Office and menu by chef and Frevo co-owner Franco Sampogna featuring fried risotto, Spanish mackerel hand rolls, and a Brazilian BBQ station.

Now on view, "When We Bloom" delves into themes of resilience, heartbreak, and healing through textured, expressionistic portraits that pulse with raw emotion. At the heart of the exhibition is Mr. StarCity’s "BLOOMERS" series, where somber figures emerge from dark, textured surfaces, their heavy expressions softened by flourishing flower beds. Beneath these figures, colorful, amoeba-like forms hint at the hidden emotional depths of those affected by trauma and systemic injustices. Also on view are works from his "LOVERBOY" series, a narrative exploration of a traveling jazz musician doomed to heartbreak, his saxophone being his only true love. For those in New York, "When We Bloom" is on view through May 3.
